Shift Ranking

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Shift Ranking evaluates each shift in real time using your employees’ historical sales performance. As the schedule is built, the system automatically color-codes shifts to help you identify where top performers should be placed during peak business hours and where operational efficiencies can be made.

When to Use This

Use Shift Ranking when:

  • Building or reviewing a schedule

  • Assigning high performers to high-impact shifts

  • Identifying opportunities to reduce labor or overtime

  • Planning operational or administrative tasks during slower times

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open your schedule in Shiftlab.

  2. Review the automatically applied shift colors.

  3. Use the color indicators to determine:

    • Where to place top performers

    • Where you may need additional coverage

    • Where operational tasks or labor reductions may fit

  4. Adjust the schedule as needed based on performance trends and coverage goals.

Key Definitions

Dark Green (Top Sales-Per-Hour Shifts)
These represent the highest-opportunity shifts of the week—your peak business times. This is where your strongest performers can make the biggest impact.

Light Green (Mid-Tier Shifts)
These shifts fall in the middle range. They offer potential for strong performance but historically trend at average sales per hour.

Yellow (Most Covered/Low-Opportunity Shifts)
These are your slowest or most overstaffed shifts. They’re ideal for operational work, minimizing overtime, or finding labor efficiencies.
