Editing Shifts on a Schedule

Overview

Shiftlab allows managers to adjust shifts after a schedule is built. Shifts can be edited directly or through the daily view, which provides visibility into business demand patterns to support accurate adjustments.

When to Use This

  • Updating shift times after auto-build

  • Modifying shifts to match business demand

  • Shortening or extending employee shifts

  • Adding notes to explain shift changes

  • Reviewing business patterns before making adjustments

Step-by-Step Instructions

Method 1: Editing a Shift Directly

  1. Hover over the shift you want to update.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Adjust the start or end time.

    • Example: Change Alex’s Wednesday end time from 5:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

  4. Add notes if needed.

  5. Click Save.

  6. The automated icon (A) is removed, indicating the shift is now manually edited.

Method 2: Editing Shifts in Daily View

  1. Click the day you want to adjust (e.g., Friday).

  2. Review the business pattern graph displayed in the bottom-left corner.

  3. Drag the edge of a shift to adjust the time.

    • Example: If demand drops after 5:30 PM, drag the shift end time to 5:15 PM.

  4. The graph updates automatically to reflect the new shift time.

  5. The automated icon (A) is removed from the shift to show it has been manually updated.

Returning to Week View

  1. In the top-right corner, click Week to return to the full weekly schedule.

Key Details & Definitions

  • Automated Shift (A): A shift generated by auto-build. Any manual change removes the automation indicator.

  • Daily View: A view showing hour-by-hour business demand to support informed shift adjustments.

  • Manual Shift Edit: Any change made by dragging or editing a shift, removing automation.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Shift won’t adjust when dragging: Ensure you are in the correct day view and dragging from the shift edge.

Automation icon still appears: Confirm the shift was saved after editing.

Business pattern graph not updating: Refresh the day view to reload demand data.
