Hardware Setup - Fingerprint Scanners

Overview

This article explains how to setup a fingerprint scanner device. Once enabled, employees can access the timeclock only through the fingerprint scanner connected to the main store computer.

When to Use This

Use this process when:

  • You have installed fingerprint scanners and want Shiftlab to authenticate based on the scanner’s serial ID.

  • You need to restrict timeclock access to a single validated device.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Store Workstation

  1. Make sure the Shiftlab platform is configured for Fingerprint Setup. Your Administrator needs to enable the Admin Settings within Time Clock Setup before this Device can be configured.

2. Install the Device Drivers

  1. Install the Drivers "HID Lite Client" on the main store computer, by clicking on this link: https://hidglobal.github.io/digitalpersona-devices

  2. Navigate down to external dependencies

  3. Select and download Lite Client.

  4. Follow the prompts on the computer to complete the driver download. This driver enables Shiftlab to communicate with the fingerprint scanner.

  5. Ensure the computer is connected to the correct store Wi-Fi network.

  6. Connect the fingerprint scanner to the main store computer.

3. Connect the Fingerprint Scanner in Shiftlab

  1. Open Shiftlab on the main store computer.

  2. Open the Timeclock from the right-hand side panel.

  3. When prompted with “Shiftlab would like to connect to a device,” select the fingerprint scanner.

  4. Select Connect to complete device pairing.

4. Verify Authentication Transition

  1. After the connection is complete, the fingerprint scanner becomes the required authentication device for this location.

  2. Employees at this store will only be able to access the timeclock using the connected fingerprint scanner.

  3. Any device not connected to this scanner will not be able to open the timeclock.

Very Important:

Do NOT modify IP addresses for any location using serial ID authentication. Changing IP settings may break the fingerprint authentication link and prevent timeclock access.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Where do I get the Fingerprint Scanner Drivers from?

You can download the drivers from this website: https://hidglobal.github.io/digitalpersona-devices

The fingerprint scanner is not appearing in the device prompt.
Ensure the HID Lite Client is installed, the scanner is connected, and the computer is on the correct Wi-Fi network.

Employees cannot access the timeclock after transition.
Verify that the timeclock is being accessed from the main store computer with the connected scanner.

The system still prompts for IP validation.
Confirm that serial ID authentication is enabled and that no IP settings were recently changed.
